Game Week-2
Friday 22nd
WEST HAM v CHELSEA
20.00 in England
Sky Sports
West Ham’s start to the new season could be considered a concern for the Bubble faithful, heading to the Stadium of Light to face newly promoted Sunderland and getting hammered, pardon the pun.
Graham Potter’s team were humbled by the Black Cats suffering a devastating defeat by a 3-0 scoreline.
The Bubbles do like a moan and were on the various talk shows after the game lamenting their boys in Claret and Blue.
It looks apparent that West Ham need a goal scorer and if Jarrod Bowen isn’t getting the goals, not many others will.
It was noticeable to see the ex-Hammer Mohammed Kudos having a brilliant game for Tottenham at the same time as West Ham were toiling up t’north.
The Club World Champions weren’t at their best against Crystal Palace on Sunday, with both teams sharing the points from a draw by a 0-0 score.
Joao Pedro started, along with Jamie Gittens, however, neither could muster up any real chances.
The only real excitement for an early Sunday Afternoon was a goal scored by Palace that was ruled out by the dreaded VAR.
There is a new phenomenon in the Premier League where the referee, once he’s looked at the pitch-side monitor, gives his decision over a microphone that allows the spectators in attendance to know what’s happening.
After Marc Guehi had mauled down Moisés Caicedo in the Chelsea wall, allowing Eberechi Eze’s shot to go straight through the gap left and into the back of the net, the on-field referee Darren England was advised to look at the monitor and subsequently cancelled the goal because Marc was less than a metre away from the Chelsea wall.
There was an unbelievable response to this decision reverberating all around the World, as if it were a new rule or law, because Darren had told everyone.
The rule isn’t new, it’s been in place since 2019,
‘An opposing player should be at least a metre away from the wall’
To prevent incidents like what happened at Stamford Bridge.
Marc Guehi shouldn’t have touched Moisés Caicedo and allowed the gap for Eberechi’s shot.
So regardless of all the excitement of the decision being heard over the tannoy, it wasn’t a goal.
End of discussion.
John Newsome had a conversation with his mates (all 3 of them) about the Premier League never producing a 0-0 scoreline.
Unfortunately, that discussion has gone out of the window this weekend, with there being 2 out of the 10 games finishing in a goalless draw.
Chelsea gained the away-day victory over West Ham at the London Stadium last season.
If one remembers it was Julen Lopetegui who was in charge of a sorry set of Hammers with a couple of goals from Nicolas Jackson and a Cole Palmer strike giving Enzo’s Blues the win from a 3-0 scoreline.
Betfred offer West Ham at 4/1, the Draw at 11/4 and Odds On 8/13 for Chelsea to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 4/1 that Cole Palmer Scores First and 15/8 that Chelsea Win To Nil.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

MAN CITY v TOTTENHAM
12.30 in England
TNT Sports
After watching all 360 plus minutes of the potential Top Four’s fixtures (Liverpool v Bournemouth, Wolves v Man City, Chelsea v Crystal Palace and Manchester United v Arsenal) it’s one’s opinion that Man City were the best team out of those possible Premier League Title Winners.
Erling Haaland hardly touched the ball against Wolves but did what Erling does and scored twice, including the opening goal to settle the nerves of the travelling Citizens.
The new boys Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki scored the others to give Pep’s High Flying Blues the victory over Vitor’s Gold and Blacks by a 4-0 scoreline.
Tijjani Reijnders was superb throughout the game controlling everything with a lot of the faithful hailing the Dutchman as the New Kevin De Bruyne.
The Barnsley Beckenbauer John Stones was back in the starting eleven for the first time in a while having not started since the game against Real Madrid in February where John lasted just 8 minutes before picking up an injury.
Man City just look like a better team when the Barnsley Stone is in so that is definitely a positive for all concerned at the Etihad.
James Trafford started in goal instead of Ederson who wasn’t even on the bench, supposedly picking up an illness on Friday but there is still ongoing speculation he will be on his way with Galatasaray a potential destination for the Brazilian Stopper.
Added to that, Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic and Rodri weren’t in the squad due to injury.
All in all, it was a great start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign that will see Man City, there or thereabouts come the business end next May.
Tottenham got off to a great start against Burnley on Saturday, with a couple of Richarlison goals and a Brennan Johnson strike giving Thomas Frank’s Spurs the opening day victory over Scott Parker’s Clarets by a 3-0 scoreline.
The question then to ask is, were Tottenham good or were Burnley poor?
The probable answer is somewhere in the middle meaning the LilyWhite faithful shouldn’t get too excited just yet, with this visit to the Etihad being more of a yardstick as to where the New Look Tottenham team are at the moment.
There’s no point doing league positions just yet but these two, along with another five (Sunderland, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Leeds) have 3 points from the opening game.
Despite Tottenham having a pretty poor 2024/25 campaign, Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs stunned Pep’s Low Flying Blues at the Etihad last season.
A couple of goals from James Maddison in the 1st-half plus strikes from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson after the break, gave Tottenham the victory over Man City by a 4-0 away day score.
Betfred offer Man City at Odds On 2/5, the Draw at 18/5 and 11/2 for Tottenham to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 11/4 that Erling Haaland Scores First and 11/10 that there are Over 3.5 Goals.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BOURNEMOUTH v WOLVES
15.00 in England
Bournemouth probably stunned themselves, never mind anyone else following the opening day game against Liverpool at Anfield.
That said, despite a brilliant display that saw the Cherries score twice through goals from Antoine Semenyo to level up Liverpool’s opening 2 goals, ultimately it was a defeat on the road after the Reds scored 2 further goals late on to inflict the defeat on Bournemouth by a 4-2 scoreline.
Andoni Iraola spotted something early on and changed the way that his team played, which at the time was brilliant as the Cherries were getting outplayed in the first 20 minutes or so.
Unfortunately, like most teams that will go to Anfield this season, Liverpool proved to be the stronger team which eventually paid off leading to the 2 late goals.
There was some unsavoury business midway through the first half when Antoine informed the referee that he had been racially abused by someone in the Anfield crowd.
The Liverpool fan was subsequently ejected from the ground.
Although a defeat in the opener, the Cherry faithful shouldn’t be too downhearted as their team put in a brilliant display at the home of the Premier League Champions.
Wolves were simply outplayed by Man City on Saturday, suffering a home defeat at Molineux by a 4-0 scoreline.
Despite putting in a great effort, City were too good for Wolves, so Vitor Pereira, like Andoni Iraola shouldn’t be too downhearted and quickly move on to this game at the Vitality.
A single goal from Matheus Cunha scored after 36 minutes, gave Wolves the away day victory over Bournemouth by a 1-0 score in last season’s encounter at the Vitality.
The PSG-bound Cherry Ilya Zabarnyi was shown a straight Red Card just before Matheus scored.
The two teams met again a week later at the Vitality in the FA Cup, where the Cherries progressed following a penalty shootout.
Betfred offer Bournemouth at slight Odds On 4/5, the Draw at 13/5 and 16/5 for Wolves to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 11/2 that Antoine Semenyo Scores First and 6/4 that Bournemouth Score in Both Halves.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BRENTFORD v ASTON VILLA
15.00 in England
Brentford’s life after Thomas Frank started with a defeat against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The New Gaffer Keith Andrew oversaw his Sorry Set of Bees suffer an away day loss by a 3-1 scoreline, with Igor Thiago converting a 2nd-half penalty when the score was 3-0 in favour of Forest.
Igor has been at the GTech for a couple of seasons but hasn’t played many times for Brentford due to injury and it’s hoped the lad can stay fit and potentially be a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.
Yoane is still a Bee but the question is, for how much longer?
Brentford’s signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth was set to give the green light for Mr Wissa to leave the West London club.
Although a deal of around £35 Million was mooted for Yoane, it’s thought Brentford want closer to £40 Million.
There is interest from Newcastle, which if a transfer is successful, could set in motion the process which allows Alexander Isak to leave St James Park.
The other goalless draw that occurred in Game Week-1 was at Villa Park, with Aston Villa and Newcastle cancelling each other out, resulting in the said draw by a 0-0 score.
There isn’t much more to be said about that one.
In last season’s affair between these two at the GTech Stadium, a single Ollie Watkins goal gave Aston Villa the away-day victory over Brentford by a 1-0 scoreline.
Betfred offer Brentford at 11/5, the Draw at 12/5 and 11/10 for Aston Villa to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 9/2 that Ollie Watkins Scores First and 3/1 that Aston Villa Win To Nil.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BURNLEY v SUNDERLAND
15.00 in England
It hasn’t taken these two newly promoted teams long to square off against each other in the Promised Land.
Burnley suffered an opening-day defeat against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Scott Parker’s Clarets conceded 3 goals without reply ultimately succumbing to a loss by a 3-0 scoreline.
Burnley only conceded 16 goals last season, so it was thought that the defence would be a match for most Premier League teams, however, a couple of things have changed in the Summer which has affected the Clarets team.
Last season’s Goalkeeper James Trafford has moved on to Man City and the promotion-winning Captain of Burnley Josh Brownhill’s contract has run out and whilst Josh hasn’t joined anyone else, the lad isn’t available for selection, so two big players from last season were missing against Tottenham.
It was always going to be a tough campaign for Burnley, it’s just a matter of whether Scott Parker can pick up a few points to keep his job at Turf Moor.
Sunderland surprised everyone at the weekend, putting in a great performance and gaining an opening day victory over West Ham by a 3-0 scoreline.
After a goalless 1st-half, Eliezer Mayenda broke the deadlock heading home the first goal to give the Black Cats a lead on the hour mark.
Dan Ballard added a 2nd before Wilson Isidor rounded off the scoring in the 92nd minute to give Regis Le Bris and his Sunderland side a great start to life back in the Premier League.
In last season’s encounter at Turf Moor, in the Championship fixture, both teams cancelled each other out and gained a point apiece from a 0-0 scoreline.
When the two met later in the season at the Stadium of Light, the score was 1-0 in favour of Sunderland.
In the 2023 affair at Turf Moor, the scoreline was also 0-0, which basically means, if one is attending the game today, take some knitting or a Rubik’s Cube to entertain oneself as there probably won’t be much excitement on the pitch.
Betfred offer Burnley at 11/8, the Draw at 2/1 and 21/10 for Sunderland to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 10/1 that Simon Adingra Scores First and 4/1 that Sunderland Win To Nil.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

ARSENAL v LEEDS UNITED
17.30 in England
Sky Sports
Arsenal got off to a winning start gaining a victory over Manchester United by a 1-0 scoreline at Old Trafford on Sunday.
That said, whilst it was a victory, United could consider themselves the better team with just a mistake from the Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir whose limp hands led to Riccardo Calafiori heading home the Arsenal goal.
Arsenal will need to improve if Mikel Arteta finally wants to get his hands on the elusive Premier League trophy.
The kind Premier League Fixture Compilers (PLFC) have sent the West Yorkshire Puddings down to the Capital for a 17.30 kickoff,
which means the Marching On Together Crew won’t be back in Leeds until 22.00 hours.
The good thing about that trip, luckily for the WYP, they jump on the train in Leeds and get off at Kings Cross next to the Emirates, so not much chance of the Puddings getting lost.
That said, a few will try paying for the train ticket with marbles or Club biscuit rappers.
‘If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our club!’
Which is what Daniel Farke was singing when Dominic Calvert-Lewin signed on a free transfer.
Leeds head South to face Arsenal after also gaining a narrow victory over Everton at Elland Rd by the same 1-0 score on Monday Night Football.
After a boring first 84 minutes, Leeds were awarded a penalty when ‘LeBron’ James Tarkowski lent into the ball with his arm to give the referee no option other than to award Leeds a penalty.
Whilst it appeared harsh on the Toffee Defender, it was the correct call.
Lukas Nmecha, who had only been on the pitch 10 minutes, took the spot kick and coolly converted past Jordan Pickford.
With no further goals, Leeds gained the opening night victory which meant that 2 of the 3 promoted teams won in Game Week-1.
The game wasn’t that exciting with both teams lacking any firepower up front, however, the West Yorkshire Puddings won’t care a jot as they headed off into the night singing their famous ditty.
Marching On Together!
It was April 2023 when Arsenal last hosted Leeds, with the home team getting the victory by a 4-1 scoreline.
Gabriel Jesus scored twice, with Ben White and Granit Xhaka making it 4.
Rasmus Kristensen got the Leeds consolation.
This fixture has seen a few goals over the years so don’t be surprised if that’s the case today.
Betfred offer Arsenal at Odds On 1/4, the Draw at 9/2 and 9/1 for Leeds United to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 9/2 that Bukayo Saka Scores First and 21/20 that Arsenal Win To Nil.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

Sunday 24th
CRYSTAL PALACE v NOTTINGHAM FOREST
14.00 in England
Sky Sports
‘The Europa Conference League/Europa League Derby’
Granted that might not catch on but basically this should be an interesting game for the Eagle Untras who no doubt will have a few choice songs aimed at the Tricky Tree faithful, regarding the European Debacle.
Crystal Palace are hard to beat at the moment and proved the case against Chelsea in the opener on Sunday, with both teams gaining a point from a draw by a 0-0 score.
There still aren’t many goalless draws in the Premier League, just 2 over Game Week-1.
There was an incident that produced a goal but the dreaded VAR ruled that Marc Guehi had impeded a Chelsea player in the wall when the law or rule says an opposing player has to be at least a metre away.
Which brings back memories of the brilliant Graham Taylor documentary regarding his time as the England Manager.
‘Am a metre, am a metre!’
Whilst Palace are hard to beat at the moment, with Marc Guehi being key to that, there is still a chance that Marc and his mate Eberechi Eze will be away from Selhurst Park come September 2nd.
Double E did make what appeared to be an emotional farewell at the end of the game against Chelsea on Sunday, with Tottenham agreeing a deal for the Midfielder.
Marc could possibly end up at Anfield.
Both teams shared the points from a draw by a 1-1 score at Selhurst Park last season.
Eberechi Eze scored the opener after an hour to give Palace the lead, which didn’t last long as Murillo equalised for Forest 4 minutes later.
With no further goals, both went home with a point apiece.
At the time, in May, Forest were still hoping to make the Champions League but finished in the Europa Conference League place.
Crystal Palace had to face Man City in the FA Cup Final and in truth, weren’t expecting a victory, however, they surprisingly got their hands on the Trophy gaining entry into the Europa League.
As everyone now knows, Palace have been demoted to the Conference League and Forest upgraded to the Europa League, so this should be a fun game, more for those watching, rather than playing.
Betfred offer Crystal Palace at 6/5, the Draw at 11/5 and 11/5 for Nottingham Forest to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 13/2 that Chris Wood Scores First and 7/4 that Jean-Philippe Mateta Scores Anytime.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

EVERTON v BRIGHTON
14.00 in England
Sky Sports
The time has come, Everton will finally play their first Premier League game at the New Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Docks.
It did appear that David Moyes had ventured East over the M62 to Elland Rd on Monday just to gain a point from a dull draw.
That looked likely until ‘LeBron’ James Tarkowski leaned into the ball from a shot and gifted Leeds a penalty in the 84th minute.
The home team converted and with no further goals, the Toffees came away from West Yorkshire with nothing from the opening game.
Jack Grealish was a substitute and got 20 minutes at the end but didn’t really change anything.
It’s early days yet for JG so one cannot be too harsh on the lad.
Brighton gained a point from a draw by a 1-1 score against Fulham on Saturday.
Matt O’Riley converted a penalty early in the 2nd-half to give the Seagulls a lead.
With the clock ticking over 97 minutes, Fulham amazingly scored a very late equaliser to give both teams a share of the points.
In last season’s encounter at Goodison Park, the game was the opening match of the season with Brighton coming away with all 3 points from a 3-0 away day score.
Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra with the Seagulls’ goals.
Everton’s Ashley Young was shown a straight Red Card when the score was 2-0.
Although a victory for Brighton, it was Sean Dyche who was in charge of the Toffees.
Everton, under David Moyes, got the away victory at the Amex later on in the season.
Betfred offer Everton at 2/1, the Draw at 11/5 and 13/10 for Brighton to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 6/1 that Beto Scores First and slight Odds On 8/11 that Both Teams Score.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

FULHAM v MANCHESTER UNITED
16.30 in England
Sky Sports
As just mentioned in the Everton v Brighton Preview, Fulham scored a very late equaliser in the 97th minute to gain a point from a draw by a 1-1 score at the Amex.
Rodrigo Muniz with the late goal.
Manchester United could consider themselves unlucky after suffering an opening-day defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.
Weetabix Hands Altay Bayindir failed to clear a corner with the ball slipping through his gloves into the path of an Arsenal player who headed home the only goal of the game in the 13th minute, giving Arsenal the victory by a 1-0 scoreline.
In truth, United played well and were miles ahead of last season’s disappointing performances.
Matthijs De Ligt was superb throughout, as was Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot, keeping quiet a very poor set of Gunners.
Casemiro had a good game, as did Patrick Dorgu, Mason Mount and as always the Captain Bruno Fernandes.
The new boys Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha put in a great shift and were unfortunate not to score.
If it wasn’t for Limpy Hands Lionel, who provided Arsenal with a platform to defend, then United could easily have come away with at least a point.
That said, it was another defeat which is not good for Ruben Amorim’s stats.
A single Lisandro Martinez goal, midway through the 2nd-half gave Manchester United the away-day victory over Fulham by a 1-0 scoreline back in January at Craven Cottage.
Fulham then knocked United out of the FA Cup a week later progressing from a penalty shootout.
Betfred offer Fulham at 2/1, the Draw at 12/5 and 6/5 for Manchester United to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 7/1 that Bruno Fernandes Scores First and 2/1 that Manchester United Score in Both Halves.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

Monday 25th
NEWCASTLE v LIVERPOOL
20.00 in England
Sky Sports
The Alexander Isak Derby.
Can one call this game that?
Will Alexander still be a Magpie come kickoff, or will the Swede be a Liver Bird?
Newcastle gained a point from a draw by a 0-0 score in the opener against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.
Whilst putting in a great display, it was evident that the Magpies were missing their Star AI Technology.
Newcastle left Villa Park on Saturday with an added extra.
Villa’s Jacob Ramsey has joined the Magpies for a fee of around £40 Million.
Yoane Wissa looks to be on his way to St James Park once a fee is agreed which could release Alexander into the arms of the Liverpool team.
That’s unlikely to happen before tonight’s game, with Mr Isak sat somewhere in a Liverpool Shirt cheering on his new mates.
Liverpool were in complete control against Bournemouth on Friday with goals from Hugo Ekitike and Coady Gakpo giving the Reds a lead.
It was then the Antoine Semenyo show, with the Cherries Striker scoring twice to level up the game going into the final 15 minutes.
For Antoine’s 2nd goal, the Liverpool players just let the Cherry run the whole length of the field and smash home without making a challenge.
Mr Semenyo had been racially abused by a Liverpool fan who was subsequently ejected from Anfield and probably won’t be returning for some time.
Arne’s New Slot Machines then started to play again with the forgotten man Federico Chiesa scoring a 3rd for Liverpool to take the lead once again before that man Mo Salah scored his obligatory goal in the 94th minute to give Liverpool the opening day victory over Bournemouth by a 4-2 scoreline.
As mentioned earlier, after watching all of the supposed Top Four’s games over the weekend, John Newsome thinks that Man City had the best performance out of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and themselves, so it looks like it’s going to be another great year for all concerned.
These two met a few times last season, notably in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley where Newcastle gained the victory and the trophy from a 2-1 scoreline.
At St James Park in early December 2024, both teams shared the points from a draw by a 3-3 score.
The man of the moment, Alexander Isak scored the opener to give Newcastle a lead at the break.
Curtis Jones scored an equaliser for Liverpool just after the restart before Anthony Gordon scored to restore Newcastle’s lead.
Mo Salah then scored twice to put Liverpool in front until Fabian Schar scored an equaliser in the 90th minute to give both teams a point apiece.
Liverpool gained the home victory at Anfield a couple of months later, so all 3 results were offered up in the 3 games played last season.
Betfred offer Newcastle at 12/5, the Draw at 13/5 and slight Odds On 19/20 for Liverpool to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 11/2 that Hugo Ekitike Scores First and 6/4 that Liverpool Score in Both Halves.
(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.
If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)
