Tim Lawson’s ITV Horse Racing Tips, Royal Ascot Day 5 2018

day 5 royal ascot tips 2018

It has been a tough week for punters and the bookies must be smiling. However, we have seen some exhilarating horse racing this week and sorry to see the final day has arrived so soon. Royal Ascot Day 5 tips below, but first a recap on yesterday.

We had two nice winners 0n Day 4 at Royal Ascot, so lets try and get a few more today… Yesterday’s winners were:

Old Persian 5/1 advised winner

Chased leaders on outer until closed to press leader 10f out, effort over 2f out, ridden to lead 2f out, edged right and forged ahead over 1f out, ran on strongly inside final furlong, ridden out (op 11/2)

Alpha Centauri 7/2 advised winner

Held up in touch in midfield, closed to track leaders and travelling strongly 3f out, shaken up to lead well over 1f out, soon ridden and readily quickened clear, in no danger and ran on strongly final furlong, very impressive (op 3/1)

Now back to our professional horse racing tips.

14:30 The Chesham Stakes (Listed Race)

We know that Natalie’s Joy is the short price favourite here and is likely going to improve and could easily win this contest, however, 2 year old races are never that easy to predict. Therefore you need to find a good value bet as there are just too many unknown factors. We will take an each way punt with On A Session at 11/1 (Won the same two French races as last year’s Albany winner from same stable).

On A Session 11/1 Each Way

15:05  The Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2)

This race has the much hyped Crystal Ocean who has enough questions marks to warrant an examination of its very short odds on price. While it is correct favourite, has the market made it a poor value bet? We think so, and that is why we like the look of Idaho as an each way bet at 11/2. Has the proven class and seems to like good to firm going as well as the course conditions at Ascot.

Idaho 11/2 Each Way

15:40 The Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed Race)

This race doesn’t seem as wide open as the first race and Queen Of Bermuda looks like a decent bet as has very good form and the horse’s form has been franked by the only horse to beat it thus far in its short career. O Briens charge, Van Beethoven on the other hand has been let down by the form of Fairyland in the Albany yesterday and hence the market drift. While US raider Wesley Ward has a strong stable at Ascot, we believe the current favourite, Moonlight Romance, is capable of being beaten and is no superstar.

Queen Of Bermuda 7/1 Each Way

16:20 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series)

The favourite, Harry’s Angel, looks weak in this race and there are two great contenders in Merchant Navy and Redkirk Warrior. This two have duelled in Australia with Redkirk warrior being the victor (and with weight at hand). However Merchant Navy is younger, still progressing and more importantly, joined Aidan O’ Brien’s stable one run again, where it had a satisfying winning debut. It will surely come on from that.

Merchant Navy 4/1

17:00 The Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

Danzeno and Tupi look the most interesting here as both have posted some very good speed figures on both the going and at the track. However, Danzeno is running at 6F when it definitely prefers 5F. On the other hand Tupi has a decent OR and has top jockey Ryan Moore on board. It has the class to win this big handicap and has ran credibly in black type races at Ascot before. The market seems to be moving in on this one as it has dropped from 20/1 into 14/1.

Tupi 14/1 Each Way

17:35  The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap)

It is not that inventive but we will be finishing off the 5 Day Royal Ascot predictions with the favourite! Thomas Hobson, the Willie Mullins trained horse is coming to take the big payday back to Ireland!

Thomas Hobson 6/4
