William Haggas’ 4-year-old should be back to her best, for the Fillies Mile at Ascot, Seymour Biz believes.
The TV cameras are at Ascot on Saturday for the Victoria Cup meeting and are covering four races there so I will give a brief write-up for this weeks Lucky Fifteen for those.
At 2.15, the mile and a half handicap brings out some good campaigners, top of the betting is Hamada on the strength of his win at Wolverhampton in April, I’m not sure if that form is strong enough for this plus he has a 5lb penalty for that victory. Thundering Blue was rusty first time out this season at Epsom and can improve on that, however I like Ed Dunlop’s Manjaam. The gelding had a prep run at Wolverhampton and has won here over the course and distance.
The Listed Race at 2.50 again over a mile and a half steps up the class of the contenders and Roger Varian sends Barsanti who was runner up to Idaho here at Ascot in the Hardwicke Stakes. Salouen is also a contender who has performed well in France in group races, but has not won since 2016. I prefer to take a chance with Titi Mafki, who ran well at Goodwood last week.
The Fillies mile at 3.25 features a few exposed horses, top of the betting is Queen Of Time who unshipped Kieran Shoemark last time when clipping the heels of the eventual winner. But I like the look of Dynamic who won first time out last season after being lightly raced, if William Haggas considers her fit enough for this , we should take the hint.
At 4.00 we have the big handicap of the day, the Victoria Cup, and Keyser Soze is the bookies favourite. He ran third at Newbury in April when he was headed and lost second close to home. Silent Attack has already won this year in April at Lingfield where he won going away, however I will side with Medahim who was unlucky at Goodwood last time finding trouble in running but finishing strongly to take fourth on the line. At a bigger price Gilgamesh, who ran disappointingly last time and was said to want better going, can go well here on a sound surface and has e/w claims.
