It’s Leger day at Doncaster, although there is very little value to found in any of the TV races except the big field Portland Handicap. That race is the first on the card and although Bielsa is looking to continue his winning run for top sprint trainer Kevin Ryan I will put Marnie James up against him. The selection has run well in his last two outings but has come up against Dakota Gold on both occasions, he deserves a victory. In the 3.00 we see the top two-year-olds coming out to do battle and for me Royal Crusader looks a bit special. Although he only won his maiden by a neck he ran a bit green and will have come on from that. In the Leger, Logician is the one to beat and I like the look of Mark Johnson’s Sir Ron Priestley. His wins at Goodwood and Haydock this year have been excellent so making him a top class contender. At Chelmsford on the all-weather I give another Johnson horse a further chance and that is Lake Volta. He has run poorly after his early season promise but on a different surface may well come good.

E/W Lucky 15
1.50 Doncaster. Marnie James
3.00 Doncaster. Royal Crusade
3.35 Doncaster. Sir Ron Priestley
2.45 Chelmsford. Lake Volta
