All the action on ITV Racing this Saturday is from the south-east of England with meetings from Goodwood and Sandown being televised. There are five races from Goodwood being shown, and they include a Group 2, two Class 2 handicaps and two Class 2 Fillies Stakes.

The Sandown meeting features two Group 3s, a Class 2 handicap and a Class 2 Fillies Stakes. So it’s certainly a Saturday for the young ladies of the turf, and here are my thoughts and this week’s Lucky Fifteen.
Saturday Lucky Fifteen
2.00 Goodwood. Aalto
2.35 Goodwood. Tony Montana

Beginning at Goodwood with the 2.00 the Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Handicap, this is a Class 2 contest run over 7 furlongs of the Sussex track. Top weight and one of the favourites is Harry Charlton’s Completely Random, who won a couple of races at Lingfield in January, including a Listed race, but since then has struggled to make his mark in handicaps due to being so high in the weights.
David O’Meara’s Pellitory won at Haydock earlier this month. He showed a marked improvement on his previous run, which was here at Goodwood, where the trainer blamed the wide draw.
O’Meara also runs old favourite Rhoscolyn, who has won here six times in his career but is an 8-year-old now and has not shown any of his old fizz this season.
George Scott’s Forty Years On won three times last season and won on his only start this term at Newbury in June. He moves up in class here.
Andrew Balding’s Ghost Mode won over this course and distance at the beginning of this month and can go close again.
I prefer Ian Williams’s Aalto, who won at Newmarket in July then was placed in a hot handicap at Ascot later in the month.
The 2.35 is the Virgin Bet A Good Bet Handicap, a Class 2 race run over 1m 4f. Gary and Josh Moore’s Too Soon is fancied here since his win at Epsom in June, where he beat Ralph Beckett’s Lord Melbourne. His previous run was here at Goodwood, where he ran a poor 5th.
The current favourite is William Haggas’s High Degree, who followed up a good second at Newmarket in July with a fine victory at Pontefract earlier this month. He’s sure to go close despite his rise in the weights.
Rod Millman’s bottom-weight Green Sky notched up a hat-trick of wins in July, but that run came to a shuddering halt when she was moved up in class earlier this month. She has been moved up in class again here but looks out of her depth.
I go for Kevin de Foy’s Tony Montana to open his account for the season now he is moved up in trip. His latest run was here at Goodwood last month where he ran a fine 4th in a top-class handicap despite not getting a clear run. He’s sure to improve on that effort.
The Group 2 Virgin Bet Celebration Mile is at 3.10 and, not unusually, is run over a mile! Karl Burke’s Boiling Point was victorious here at Goodwood in a Listed race in May. He ran second in a handicap last month at the ‘Glorious’ meeting and can go close here.
Eve Johnson Houghton’s Zavateri ran 5th in a Group 1 at York last week and, prior to that, 5th in another Group 1 here at Goodwood. He won a Group 1 last season and looks to have a favourite’s chance.
Hugo Palmer’s Seagulls Eleven won a Group 3 over this course and distance last year and has won two Class 1s this term, but he ran poorly in a Group 1 here at Goodwood in July.
I like Ralph Beckett’s Qirat and think this is just his type of race, and he deserves a victory after being used as a pacemaker on occasions in Group 1s. He is a Group 1 winner in his own right, having won one here at Goodwood last year, his third victory at he track. His latest run can be discounted, as it was pacemaker duties, but this could be his place in the sun.
Moving north a little to Sandown and the 2.15, which is the Zyn Frontrunner Finish Handicap, a Class 2 contest run over a distance of 1m 2f. Roger Varian’s Kokbastau is the current favourite, but his two victories have come on the all-weather. Prior to those wins, his run on turf at Yarmouth was underwhelming.
William Haggas’s Crown Of Oaks won three times last season, including a Class 2 at Ascot. He disappointed at the Curragh in June, where he trailed in last in a Group 3. His weight is a problem.
The other top weight is Charlie Appleby’s King’s Charter, who won twice as a 3-year-old, and his three runs this season were early on at Meydan. He didn’t set the world on fire there, but who knows what the maestro Appleby has done with him, and he’s another with plenty of weight.
John and Thady Gosden runs My Love Is King, who has some fine form. A winner as a 2-year-old, then ran second to the excellent Maltese Cross on his seasonal reappearance in April, then second in a Listed race at Newmarket in May. In June, he ran 8th of 16 in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot. A win cannot be far away.
I also like Alan King’s Alcarath after his fine second here at Sandown in June. He can be in the frame again at a nice price, but I just prefer My Love Is King.
