ITV are covering three meetings this Saturday in a desperate attempt to find some decent racing. The trio of courses being covered are Beverley, Chester and Sandown with a total of seven races being televised.

The main meeting is Sandown with four races on offer, two Group races and two handicaps, Beverley offer a handicap and a Listed race which is their race of the season, The Beverley Bullet and finally one Listed race from Chester.

The Beverley Bullet will see Tis Marvellous go for his third successive win in the race and he is sure to be popular with punters but Judicial won here last season and he will be a tough opponent. So I’ve looked through the races on offer and here are my thoughts.

Saturday Lucky Fifteen

2.25 Sandown. Potapova

Starting at Sandown with the 1.50 the Virgin Bet Best Odds Daily Handicap a 7 furlongs Class 3 contest where Alice Haynes’s Indemnify has been saddled with top weight. The four-year-old grey won here at Sandown in May and returned here in August to finish fourth. He drops down in trip but has plenty of weight.

William Stone’s Final Watch was a fine winner at Newmarket in July. He had Lyndon B well beaten back in 7th but he disappointed a week later at the same track. The race probably came too quickly.

James Tate’s Tough Enough was a course and distance winner here last month but he’s upped in class and this is tougher.

Maywake has been winning in this class for trainer Richard Fahey and he can go close here.

But my preference is for William Haggas’s Alpha Capture who won a Listed race last season but this year has not gone to plan. He has been racing in a better class of contest than this and coming here off a low weight should give him every chance.

The 2.25 is the Virgin Bet Atalanta Stakes. This is a fillies and mares Group 3 contest run over a mile. Sir Michael Stoute’s Potapova won this last year and returns to try and reclaim her crown. Her last run was in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot in June where she finished a creditable 5th. Stoute has had her aimed at this since then and she looks to have every chance.

Richard Hannon runs Heredia who won a Listed race at Haydock very easily last month but this is a step up.

John and Thady Gosden have two in the lineup, Coppice won a handicap at Royal Ascot then moved to Group company at Newmarket in July but was well beaten, their other runner.

Queen For You makes more appeal to me – she won at Ascot in May then was considered good enough to be entered in a Group One at Royal Ascot but was beaten over 5 lengths. She disappointed at York in July and is looking to bounce back. She will go close.

Richard Fahey’s Midnight Mile won that York race in July but could run only third last month at Haydock.

I will mention Ismail Mohammed’s Nivea’s Angel who has won two small races very easily and could be anything.

The big handicap of the day is the Virgin Bet Handicap at 3.00, a Class 2 run over 10 furlongs. Jack Channon’s Certain Lad has top weight but he has disappointed over the last couple of seasons having not won since 2020. His latest run at Yarmouth was a poor effort.

Sir Mark Prescott’s Eagle’s Way was a close second in that Yarmouth race but he seems to have plenty of weight here.

William Haggas’s Gaassee drops back in trip after being unsuccessful this season. His latest run at Ascot saw him take the lead a furlong out but he was unable to hang on and finished fourth. He can go close.

Hughie Morrison’s Stay Well was tried at 2 miles on his penultimate run but was stone dead last. He was fourth last time at Windsor in a Class 3. This is much tougher.

Ralph Beckett’s stable is on fire at present and Baltic Voyage won at Ripon in July but disappointed at Goodwood last month when hanging right. He can go closer here.

Beckett’s other runner is Lord Protector, a dual Sandown winner, who also disappointed at Goodwood and I am torn between the two but I just give Lord Protector the nod.

Moving north to Beverley and the 2.05 is the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap a 1 m 4f Class2 contest. There has been a poor turnout here with just eight runners. The top weight is Alan King’s Stowell who has run just once this year. That was at Newmarket and he finished ninth.

Ian Williams has two runners, Dream Harder who won at Chester in July then ran fourth at Windsor last month and Dancing In Paris who has run consistently well this season but steps up in class here.

David Simcock’s Fulfilled has won two minor contests this season but has failed when stepped up in grade.

My preference is Roger Varian’s Aimeric who won at Doncaster in June and has since run creditably in two hot handicaps at Ascot and Newmarket. This is an easier mission.
