Game Week-6
Saturday 28th
NEWCASTLE v MAN CITY
12.30 in England
TNT Sport
One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a Fulham victory by a 3-1 scoreline against Newcastle on Saturday.
Eddie’s Magpies were simply second best at Craven Cottage, trailing 2-0 at the break.
Harvey Barnes did pull a goal back early in the 2nd-half but Fulham then added a 3rd to inflict the defeat on the away team.
The Toon Army then went off into London with cries of,
‘Hoo much?’
When asking for a pint or several.
‘Hoo much, canny bit dear that pet!’
Newcastle sit 6th in the Premier League Table with the same 10 points as Chelsea from the opening 5 fixtures.
It could be considered as justification that the time wasting from the 46th minute onwards by Arsenal and specifically David Raya, produced 8 minutes of added extras that ultimately led to the Man City equaliser in the 98th minute by the Barnsley Beckenbauer John Stones.
In a purely one-way game that produced a draw by a 2-2 score, Pep’s High Flying Blues left the Etihad with an unbeaten record against an Arsenal side that were hell-bent on not losing.
Fair play to Mikel Arteta, why would he want his team to lose, however, the Arsenal Gaffer didn’t want to win either and after Leandro Trossard was rightly sent off for kicking the ball away, (the Gunners need some advice on this act), it was all City and just a matter of time before the home team scored an equaliser.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring first before Arsenal scored twice to potentially leave Manchester with all 3 points.
Arsenal’s opening goal was a bit naughty with a free kick taken from the wrong place and Kyle Walker being out of position.
It could be argued that Kyle was at fault for the 2nd goal also.
Maybe Mr Walker is on the wane.
Leandro Trossard was then sent off just before half-time which eventually led to a backs-against-the-wall approach which frustrated the Blues until John Stones popped up with an equaliser.
Man City sit at the summit of the Premier League with 13 points from the opening 5 fixtures, a point more than Liverpool and Aston Villa, who have both suffered a loss.
City, along with Arsenal, Brighton and Nottingham Forest are part of the ‘unbeaten four’ that haven’t tasted defeat yet.
A couple of weeks back, John Newsome mentioned that some of the players’ game time was being managed with Chelsea omitting Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia from their Europa Conference League Squad.
It was mooted that possibly in the future, a player would be restricted to a maximum of a certain number of games per season, for example, 50, meaning a player could play 44 times for his club and a further 6 for his International Team.
Over the past week, Rodri has come out and stated that the players are considering going on Strike due to how much football an individual is expected to play each week, month and season.
Firstly, let’s take away the money these players earn, from the discussion, as that really is irrelevant as to how many games a person can play.
There are a couple of subjective points to consider and ‘consider’ is the operative word.
The fans love to see these wonderful players perform to their highest level, who should have their game time managed accordingly to offer the spectators their best performance, however, that is up to the Manager, not UEFA or FIFA.
The Squads are enormous nowadays, not like back in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s when a club basically used 13 players throughout the campaign.
So it’s now up to the Manager to use his Squad correctly to ensure that each individual gets the optimum amount of rest and recovery.
The next point is that only the most successful clubs play the most amount of games.
So if a player, such as the likes of Rodri, is not successful, then that correlates to not playing as many games per season and means fewer ‘Trophies’ on the Mantelpiece.
The irony in what Rodri has stated about possible ‘going on strike’ due to playing too many games, is that Roadie Rodri had only played 45 minutes for Man City prior to the interview and 58 minutes for Spain since the Euro’s that ended on July the 14th, where the Spaniard was taken off at half-time.
John Stones played in the same Final and has been managed correctly by Pep Guardiola, with the Barnsley Beckenbauer playing 41 minutes and 84 minutes over the opening 4 games for City and 79 and 7 minutes for England in the recent Internationals.
Kevin De Bruyne has played more than both his teammates mentioned, however, KDB’s Euro Adventure for Belgium, ended on the 1st of July, 2 weeks before John’s and Rodri’s time in Germany.
That’s just a snapshot of how a player can have his game time managed by the Club.
Mikel Arteta, Arne Slot and the rest can do the same with their players, so there really isn’t any need for a potential ‘Strike’ and talk of one needs to be addressed and put to bed, sooner rather than later.
Forty years ago, this Country endured a year-long ‘Strike’ which effectively put an end to the ‘Great’ in Great Britain.
A lot of people and communities are still suffering and struggling 40 years on from that Dark Period.
Talk of the Players wanting to go on ‘Strike’ because they are maybe kicking a ball around a bit too much, won’t go down well in certain parts of the Country and for that matter, the World.
Man City gained a narrow victory over Newcastle at St James Park last season from a brilliant 5-goal thriller.
Bernardo Silva scored the opener which was quickly equalised by Alexander Isak.
Anthony Gordon added a 2nd for the home team to give the Magpies a lead at the interval.
Kevin De Bruyne equalised for City midway through the 2nd-half and when the time was almost up and a draw seemed likely, Oscar Bobb nipped in to score the winner to give Pep’s High Flying Blues the points from a 3-2 away day scoreline.
Betfred offer Newcastle at 4/1, the draw at 16/5 and slight Odds On 4/6 for Man City to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 3/1 that Erling Haaland Scores First and 6/5 that there are Over 3.5 Goals.

ARSENAL v LEICESTER
15.00 in England
The Gunners eventually ran out of ammunition against Pep’s High Flying Blues.
Arsenal went up to the Etihad on Sunday, determined not to lose against Man City and although were outplayed for the majority of the game, did come away with a point from a draw by a 2-2 score.
City had 78% possession as opposed to Arsenal’s 22%, 33 goal attempts compared to the Gunners 5 and 11 ‘Shots On Target’ with Arsenal having 3.
The main statistic there is the 3 ‘SOT’ which produced 2 goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel.
After taking the lead, David Raya started to time waste every time he got the ball.
The irony in that time wasting was 8 minutes were added to both halves resulting in a 2nd Yellow Card and the subsequent Red for Leandro Trossard and ultimately, the equaliser in the 2nd-half injury time, both incidents happening in the 8th extra minute.
The point gained leaves Arsenal in 4th place with 11 points from 5 games played.
Foxes eat the Toffee.
Despite Everton taking the lead on Saturday, Stephy Mavididi equalised in the 2nd-half for Leicester scoring his 2nd goal in consecutive games to gain the Foxes a draw against the Toffees by a 1-1 score.
Leicester sit in 15th place with 3 points from 3 draws out of the opening 5 fixtures.
It was August 2022 when Arsenal last hosted Leicester at the Emirates in a Game Week-2 affair in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
The Gunners shot the Foxes gaining the home victory by a 4-2 scoreline, with the goals going in as follows,
23′ Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal 1-0)
35′ Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal 2-0)
Half-Time Cup of Earl Grey
53′ William Saliba- OG (Leicester 2-1)
55′ Granit Xhaka (Arsenal 3-1)
74′ James Maddison (Leicester 3-2)
75′ Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal 4-2)
Full-Time Dubonnet and Cherry Ade
Arsenal have won the last 5 meetings between these two teams but Leicester did gain a victory at the Emirates back in October 2020, which was part of the Coronavirus affected season, where no spectators were allowed into the stadium.
Betfred offer Arsenal at Odds On 2/11, the draw at 13/2 and 16/1 for Leicester to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 5/1 that Kai Havertz Scores First and slight Odds On 4/5 that Arsenal Win To Nil.

BRENTFORD v WEST HAM
15.00 in England
Bees get stuck in the Chas and Dave Honey.
Brentford suffered a defeat against Tottenham in the London Derby with Ange’s Spurs taking the points from a 3-1 score.
It was confirmed that Yoane Wissa had picked up an injury and would be missing, which, added to Ivan Toney leaving the club, limits Thomas Frank’s options up front.
Bryan Mbeumo did score first for the Bees, however, the home team scored twice to lead at the break and added a 3rd in the 2nd-half to inflict the away day defeat.
Brentford sit in 12th place with 6 points from the opening 5 games.
Hammers get their Bubbles burst by Mr Jackson, Michael isn’t happy.
West Ham themselves suffered a London Derby defeat against Chelsea in the early Saturday Afternoon Football, with the Blues getting the victory by a 3-0 away day score.
That’s now 3 losses from the opening 5 fixtures leaving Julen’s Hammers in 14th place with 4 points from a win and a draw.
Brentford gained the victory over West Ham at the GTech Stadium last season, in a 5-goal thriller with the Bees getting the points from a 3-2 score.
The goals going in as follows,

19′ Mohammed Kudos (West Ham 1-1)

CHELSEA v BRIGHTON
15.00 in England
Mr Jackson brings out the best to quarantine Bubbles.
Nicolas Jackson scored twice, with Cole Palmer adding a 3rd to give Chelsea the victory over West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Chelsea are quietly going about their business and have sneaked into 5th place with the same 10 points as Newcastle from 3 Wins, a Draw and a Loss in the opening 5 games.
The Seagulls fail to make a home on the Tricky Trees branch.
Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck scored in the 1st-half to take a slender lead at the break after Forest had scored first at the Amex on Sunday.
Despite having a player sent off late on, Forest had already scored an equaliser and with no further goals, both teams shared the points from a draw by a 2-2 score.
The Archbishop was happy.
Brighton sit in 7th place with the same 9 points as Sunday’s rivals Nottingham Forest.
In last season’s encounter at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea gained the victory over Brighton by a narrow 3-2 scoreline.
17′ Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea 1-0)
21′ Levi Colwill (Chelsea 2-0)
43′ Facundo Buonanotte (Brighton 2-1)
Half-Time Non-Alcoholic Lager Top.
65′ Enzo Fernandez-Penalty (Chelsea 3-1)
90+2′ Joao Pedro (Brighton 3-2)
Full-Time Gin and IRN BRU.
Conor Gallagher was shown 2 Yellow Cards and the subsequent Red in the 1st-half to ultimately leave Chelsea a man-lite for all of the 2nd-half.
Betfred offer Chelsea at slight Odds On 8/11, the draw at 16/5 and 100/30 for Brighton to come away with all 3-points.
Betfred offer 5/1 that Cole Palmer Scores First and 11/5 that Joao Pedro Scores Anytime.

EVERTON v CRYSTAL PALACE
15.00 in England
Toffees get stuck in the Foxes teeth but didn’t lose.
Everton gained their first point of the season following a draw against Leicester at the King Power on Saturday.
The ex-Blade Iliman Ndiaye scored in the 12th minute to give the Toffees a lead at the interval.
The Foxes scored an equaliser midway through the 2nd-half and with no further goals, both teams shared the points from a draw by a 1-1 score.
Everton sit in 19th place with the same 1 point as Wolves and Southampton from the initial 5 games completed.
It does appear that a takeover of the Goodison Park club has finally been achieved with the Friedkin Group taking control, which could bring a bit of stability to the club and may see an improvement on the pitch.
The Eagles swooped to bring High Scoring United back down to the ground.
Crystal Palace gained a point from a draw by a 0-0 score against Manchester United on Saturday Night, with both failing to entertain the watching Millions.
Oliver Glasner doesn’t seem to have the same impact on his team as what occurred in the final part of last season, with Palace failing to register a victory up to now.
The Eagles sit in 16th place with the same 3 points as Ipswich and Leicester, all having 3 draws and 2 losses from the opening 5 games.
In last season’s encounter at Goodison Park, both teams shared the points from a draw by a 1-1 score.
After a goalless 1st-half, Jordan Ayew scored to give Palace a lead before Amadou Onana equalised for Everton to give both a point apiece.
In the last 5 meetings between the Toffees and the Eagles, which has included 2 FA Cup games, there have been 3 draws with the scores being as follows, 1-1, 1-0 (Everton), 0-0, 2-3 (Everton) and 0-0.

The Tricky Trees prevent the Seagulls from getting their Webbed Feet on the branches at the Amex on Sunday.
After Chris Wood had opened the scoring early on, Nuno’s Trees conceded twice to go in at the interval trailing.
Ramon Sosa equalised for the away team and despite Morgan Gibbs-White receiving a 2nd Yellow Card and the subsequent Red in the 83rd minute, Forest held on for a point from a draw by a 2-2 score.
In the same incident as the sending-off, Nuno Espírito Santo and Fabian Hurzeler were also shown a Red Card so both will have to spend a game in the stands.
Nottingham Forest and Brighton, along with Arsenal and Man City, remain unbeaten with the Tricky Trees sitting in 8th place with the same 9 points as the Seagulls from the opening 5 games.
Two Wins and 3 draws.
The Cottagers shut their doors on the Magpies who had the history of Early Christians seeing the Bird as vain for not having full Black Feathers to Mourn the Crucifixion.

Keep it light John, it’s only Football.
Fulham inflicted a defeat on Newcastle on Saturday with goals from Raul Jimenez, Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson gaining the points from a 3-1 scoreline.
Newcastle pulled a goal back after Fulham had taken a 2-0 lead.

Forest gained the victory over Fulham in this meeting at the City Ground last season.
First-half goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White gave Nuno Espírito Santo the Portuguese bragging rights over his fellow countryman Marco Silva, with the Tricky Trees getting the home win by a 3-1 scoreline.
Tosin Adarabioyo scored a consolation goal for the Cottagers early in the 2nd-half.

WOLVES v LIVERPOOL

Wolves continue to howl in distress as it’s now 4 from 5 in the Loss Column following Saturday’s defeat against Aston Villa.
Gary O’Neil is still in a job but the question is, for how much longer?
The Gold and Blacks now sit at the foot of the Premier League with the same 1 point as Everton and Southampton from the opening 5 games.
Purely sat at the bottom in Alphabetical Order after scoring and conceding the same amount of goals as Everton.
Matheus Cunha scored first for Wolves against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, however, 3, 2nd-half goals from the home team, left Wolves with another defeat from a 3-1 scoreline.
Mr Diaz at the Double.
Liverpool got back to winning ways following the little blip against Nottingham Forest at Anfield last week.
After back-to-back fixtures at home, Liverpool were too strong for Bournemouth with Luis Diaz scoring twice and Darwin Nunez adding a 3rd to give Arne’s Slot Machines the victory over Andoni’s Cherries by a 3-0 scoreline.
That result did temporarily leave Liverpool at the Top of the Premier League for 24 hours before Man City’s draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
Liverpool now sit in 2nd-place with the same 12 points as Aston Villa, both a point adrift of City at the summit.
This fixture at Molineux last season, took place almost 12 months ago on the 16th of September 2023, with Liverpool gaining the away day victory over Wolves by a 3-1 scoreline.
Hwang-Hee Chan scored early for the home team to give Wolves a lead at the break.
Jurgen Klopp must have got into his Reds at half-time as Liverpool came out and scored 3 times in the 2nd-half with goals from Coady Gakpo, Andy Robertson and a Hugo Bueno own goal to gain all 3 points.

Egyptian King saves the Tractor Boys.
The ex-Barnsley Midfielder Sam Morsy scored a very late equaliser for Ipswich against Southampton on Saturday, scoring in the 95th minute to earn a point from a draw by a 1-1 score.
Southampton had taken the lead in the 5th minute but were denied the victory following Sam’s late goal.
Although Sam Morsy was born in England, the lad has played a few times for Egypt, hence the Egyptian King reference and had a run out at Oakwell back in the 2016/17 season.
Nice one Sammy Boy.
After defeats against Man City and Liverpool, Ipswich are now unbeaten from the last 3, gaining the same 3 points as Crystal Palace and Leicester from 3 draws, leaving the Tractor Boys in 17th place.
Steve Harley, the Cockney Rebel, Rest In Peace.
Wild Boys,
Wild boys,
Wild! Boys!
The Wild Boys are calling,
On their way back from the fire,
In August moon surrendered to,
A dust cloud on the rise.
Wild Boys fallen far from glory,
Reckless and so hungered,
On the razor edge, you trail
Because there’s murder by the roadside,
In a sore afraid new world.
Aston Villa with the Duran Duran Greatest Hits.
Jhon Duran did it again on Saturday, coming off the bench and scoring against Wolves at Villa Park.
The away team had taken the lead early on to leave Villa trailing at the break.
It was then left to the Wild Boy, who was introduced by Unai Emery on the hour mark, to inspire the home team with Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konza scoring to give Villa a lead.
Jhon Duran then got the 3rd in the 94th minute to secure the victory by a 3-1 scoreline.
That’s Jhon’s 4th goal of the campaign, all scored after coming on as a substitute.
Erling Haaland has 10, Luis Diaz has 5, with Mr Duran joining Bryan Mbeumo and Nicolas Jackson with 4 goals.
Aston Villa sit in 3rd place with the same 12 points as Liverpool from the opening 5 games.
Wild Boys!
These two teams last played each other at Portman Rd, back in the 2018/19 season, however, that was a Championship affair, with both sharing the points from a draw by a 1-1 score.
Jonathan Kodjia opened the scoring in the 21st minute to give Steve Bruce’s Villa a lead before Trevoh Chalobah replied for Paul Hurst’s Tractor Boys 15 minutes later to take both in level at the break.
Ipswich had a player (Tayo Edun) sent off just before the interval following 2 Yellow Cards, leaving the home team a man-lite for all of the 2nd-half.
With no further goals, both gained a point apiece.
Aston Villa finished 5th in the Championship Table but were promoted to the Premier League via the Play-Offs.
Ipswich finished bottom of the table and were relegated to League One.
Betfred offer Ipswich at 3/1, the draw at 13/5 and slight Odds On 19/20 for Aston Villa to come away with all 3-points.

MANCHESTER UNITED v TOTTENHAM
16.30 in England
Sky Sports
Bore draw from Erik’s Ten Bobs.
Manchester United scored 10 goals in the 2 games prior to the visit to Selhurst Park.
The only problem with that was that 3 were against a poor Southampton team and 7 were against a Division 3 side, Barnsley, who simply couldn’t cope with United’s attacking prowess.
A quick side note to Barnsley’s last 3 visits to Old Trafford.
Manchester United 7 Barnsley 0 P League.
Manchester United 1 Barnsley 1 FA Cup.
Manchester United 7 Barnsley 0 Carabao Cup.
An aggregate score of 15-1.
Goodnight, God bless.
The free-flowing football seen against the Saints and the (not so) Super Reds ended on Saturday with United failing to score against Palace, eventually coming away with a point from a draw by a 0-0 score.
Manchester United sit in 11th place with the same 7 points as today’s opponents Tottenham, so this really is the proverbial 6-point game.
If one’s not sure what that means, it’s when a team can get 3 points from a win, which automatically prevents the other team from getting 3 points, meaning 3 plus 3= 6.
A 6 pointer.
Both these teams play in the Europa League before this Super Sunday game, with Manchester United hosting FC Twente at Old Trafford on Wednesday and Tottenham entertaining Qarabag at the Chas and Dave Memorial Stadium on Thursday.
Ange 1 LilyWhites 0
There has been a bit of conjecture coming from the Tottenham faithful about the way Ange Postecoglou sets up his Spurs side.
Twelve months ago, Ange was lauded as the New Messiah in North London, however, a year on, discontent is bubbling to the surface as sections of the fanbase increasingly lose patience with the Australian.
That was tempered on Saturday when the
Madd Man, James Maddison inspired Tottenham to a brilliant victory against Brentford, scoring one of the goals in the win over the Bees by a 3-1 scoreline.
After conceding an early Brentford goal, Dominic Solanke scored his first for Tottenham, before Brennan Johnson added a 2nd to give the home team a lead at the break.
James Maddison, who was superb throughout, added the 3rd, to give Tottenham the victory and see Ange, temporarily silence the LilyWhites faithful.
Tottenham sit in 10th place with the same 7 points as today’s hosts.
Ange’s Spurs team ventured North to take on Erik’s Ten Bob’s at Old Trafford back in January, with the game finishing in a draw by a 2-2 score.
The Archbishop was happy.
Richarlison scored for Tottenham in between a Rasmus Hojlund and a Marcus Rashford goal for United to give the home team the advantage at the break.
Rodrigo Bentancur scored immediately after the restart and with no further goals, both teams gained a point apiece.
Betfred offer Manchester United at 11/8, the draw at 11/4 and 15/8 for Tottenham to come away with all 3-points.

‘Life is not a bowl full of Cherries, there’s good and bad in everything!’
Bournemouth suffered the expected defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday with the home team getting the victory by a 3-0 scoreline.
Andoni Iraola’s Cherries sit in 13th place with 5 points from the opening 5 fixtures.
A win, 2 draws and 2 losses.
Oh, when the Saints go Marching In.
Southampton gained their first point of the campaign on Saturday, gaining a draw against Ipswich by a 1-1 scoreline.
Tyler Dibling scored the Saints goal in the 5th minute, which for 90 minutes, looked to be the winner, until Ipswich equalised in the 95th to give both teams a point apiece.
Southampton sit in 18th place with the same 1 point as Everton and Wolves, from the opening 5 games.
At least it wasn’t a defeat.
These two South Coast teams last took on each other at the Vitality back in October 2022.
Che Adams scored the only goal of the game in the 9th minute to give Wreck-It Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints the away day victory over Gary O’Neils Cherries by a 1-0 scoreline.
The reverse fixture at St Mary’s in April 2023, saw Bournemouth gain the away day victory over Southampton by the same 1-0 score.

The teams at the summit of the Scottish Premier League had the weekend off, with Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers all competing in the Scottish Pub League Cup.
Back in the day, the loveable OzScot, the Manchester Ball Thrower, (the lad refuses to throw a Stick now) the Iccle Fat Lad and Ilkley’s Finest all played Sunday Morning Football for a team called Leo’s.
If the boys were still going, then Leo’s would probably be allowed to compete in the said Scottish Pub Cup.
John Newsome was like Diego Maradona back then but could kick with both feet.
The Ball Thrower was like a Young Erling Haaland, the Iccle Fat Lad was just that, the player that was always the first to turn up but the last to get picked, that one, however, the loveable OzScot was like Billy Connelly (very funny!) and Ilkley’s Finest was like Billy Elliott.
All of Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen progressed to the Semi-Final of the Pub Cup, Rangers taking on Motherwell (who?) and Celtic and Aberdeen taking on each other.
Celtic beat Falkirk (who?) in the Quarter-Final, Rangers won against Dundee (who?) and Aberdeen got the victory over and this is a real team, Spartans (WHO?)

The Hibs are an Edinburgh team who play in a Stadium called Easter Rd which is approximately 4 miles away from the other Edinburgh Football Club, Hearts (who?) that play at Tynecastle.
Hearts, or the ‘Jam Tarts’ ‘Jambos’ have just sacked their Manager, the ex-Rangers, Everton and Norwich player Steven Naismith.
Steven is down the Edinburgh concrete after Hearts suffered 8 (Eight) defeats in a row.
John Newsome reckons he has a chance of being the next boss of the Jambos and feels he couldn’t do any worse than old Stevie Boy.
The ex-Barnsley Gaffer Daniel Stendel had a spell at Tynecastle but that was an ill-fated journey during the Coronavirus Situation.
If the timing was different, Daniel would have been a great fit in Edinburgh.
Timing is everything in life.
