Game Week-5

Saturday 20th

LIVERPOOL v EVERTON

12.30 in England

TNT Sports

Liverpool showed the mark of true Champions by scoring a last-minute penalty, Mo Salah converting, to gain a victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

That’s back-to-back wins by the same 1-0 scoreline which keeps Arne’s New Slots at the summit of the Premier League Table with the only 100% record of 12 points from 4 games played.

That was without Alexander Isak who is set to make an appearance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday and will surely be in the squad for this Merseyside Derby.

Manchester United, back in the 1990s (the glory days) were masters at somehow getting the victory by a 1-0 scoreline.

It’s what Champions do!

Liverpool took on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League-League Phase on Tuesday, to kick start that particular competition.

Everton sit in 6th place with the same 7 points as Sunderland following a draw against Aston Villa by a 0-0 score.

There haven’t been many goals this season for the Toffees, with just 5 scored, the lowest along with Sunderland out of the Top 8 teams.

So that’s something David Moyes will have to work on.

Some Premier League teams are involved in this week’s Carabao Cup games but Everton have the week off, with that particular competition being split over the next 2 weeks.

The much-loved and sorely missed Diogo Jota scored the only goal of the game in last season’s Merseyside Derby at Anfield, giving Liverpool the victory from a 1-0 scoreline.

Betfred offer Liverpool at Odds On 2/5, the Draw at 7/2 and 11/2 for Everton to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 4/1 that Alexander Isak Scores First and 5/4 that there are Under 2.5 Goals.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BRIGHTON v TOTTENHAM

15.00 in England

Brighton suffered a South Coast defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Kaoru Mitoma scored in the 2nd-half at the Vitality to equalise an earlier Cherries goal, however, that proved to be a consolation when Bournemouth scored what turned out to be the winner on the hour mark to inflict the loss on Brighton from a 2-1 scoreline.

Fabian Hurzeler’s men just need to dust themselves down and move on to this home game against Tottenham.

Brighton sit in 13th place with the same 4 points as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Brentford from the opening 4 games played.

Tottenham have 3 Wins and 1 Loss from their opening 4 games.

The latest victory came on Saturday when Thomas Frank’s Spurs gained the points from Graham Potter’s West Ham team by a 3-0 scoreline.

Pape-Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky Van De Ven with the 2nd-half goals for Tottenham.

Tottenham sit in 3rd place with the same 9 points as Arsenal and Bournemouth.

It was then the opening game of the Champions League-League Phase, where Tottenham faced Villarreal on Tuesday.

Brighton gained the home victory over Tottenham at the Amex last season.

Second-half goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck gave the Seagulls all 3 points from a 3-2 scoreline.

The strange anomaly regarding that result was that Tottenham had taken a 2-goal lead at half-time after Brennan Johnson and James Maddison scored before the interval.

Betfred offer Brighton at 6/5, the Draw at 5/2 and 2/1 for Tottenham to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 15/2 that Kaoru Mitoma Scores First and 13/5 that Mohammed Kudos Scores Anytime.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BURNLEY v NOTTINGHAM FOREST

15.00 in England

Burnley played brilliantly against Liverpool on Sunday and were looking like gaining a point from a draw, however, the unfortunate Hannibal Mejbri handled the ball in the area, which ultimately led to a penalty for Liverpool in the 95th minute, which was converted leaving Burnley with a defeat from a 1-0 score.

Scott Parker’s Clarets sit in 17th place with the same 3 points as West Ham.

The New Look Nottingham Forest under Ange Postecoglou suffered a defeat against Arsenal on Saturday with the Gunners inflicting the loss from a 3-0 scoreline.

Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou have totally different styles of play so it’s now whether the Forest players can quickly adapt to Big Ange’s footballing philosophy.

The good thing for the Tricky Trees, is that Big Ange Postecoglou ‘wins a trophy in his 2nd season at a club!’

His words!

Forest sit in 15th place with the same 4 points as Leeds United, Manchester United, Brighton and Brentford after the opening 4 games played.

It’s now a Carabao Cup game for Forest against Swansea on Wednesday with Burnley not playing their tie against fellow Welshmen Cardiff until the 23rd of September.

It was the final game of the 2023/24 season when Burnley last hosted Nottingham Forest.

Vincent Kompany’s Clarets suffered a narrow home defeat against Nuno Espírito Santo’s Tricky Trees by a 2-1 scoreline.

Chris Wood scored both goals for Forest to give the away team the lead at the break.

Josh Cullen scored for Burnley midway through the 2nd-half which ultimately ended up being a consolation.

Burnley were then relegated finishing in 19th place with 24 points with Forest finishing in 17th with 32 points narrowly avoiding the drop.

Betfred offer Burnley at 12/5, the Draw at 9/4 and 11/10 for Nottingham Forest to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 9/2 that Chris Wood Scores First and 12/5 that Nottingham Forest Win To Nil.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

WEST HAM v CRYSTAL PALACE

15.00 in England

After a brilliant performance against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last week, West Ham reverted to being rubbish on Saturday, suffering a home defeat against fellow Londoners Tottenham by a 3-0 scoreline.

Graham Potter is still being backed by the Hammers Board but the question is, for how much longer?

The Bubbles faithful, who do like a moan, are discontent and need to see West Ham get back on
Track pretty soon or there will be trouble ahead at the London Stadium.

Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw against Sunderland at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The point gained, leaves Palace in 9th place with the same 6 points as Man City.

It’s now a Carabao Cup game against Millwall which takes place on Tuesday.

Crystal Palace gained the away-day victory over West Ham at the London Stadium last season.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice in the 2nd-half, one being a converted penalty, to give Oliver Glasner’s Eagles the win over Graham Potter’s sorry set of Hammers by a 2-0 scoreline.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was shown 2 Yellow Cards and the subsequent Red, leaving West Ham a man down for the last 10 minutes or so.

Betfred offer West Ham at 9/5, the Draw at 11/5 and 7/5 for Crystal Palace to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 9/2 that Jean-Philippe Mateta Scores First and 2/1 that Jarrod Bowen Scores Anytime.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

Away Win 1-2- Get 8/1 on Betfred & Claim your new account welcome offer!

WOLVES v LEEDS UNITED

15.00 in England

Wolves are the only one of the 20 Premier League teams that haven’t registered a point yet and sit firmly at the foot of the table with 0 points from the opening 4 games.

The latest defeat, which made it 4 out of 4 was against Newcastle on Saturday, with just a single Magpie goal conceded in the 1st-half giving Newcastle the win from a 1-0 score.

It’s a week off for Wolves, with their Carabao Cup game against Everton, not taking place until the 23rd of September.

‘Leeds, Leeds and falling apart again, Leeds, Leeds are falling apart again!’

The West Yorkshire Puddings saw their idols concede a 94th-minute Own Goal against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, leaving Daniel Farke’s Whites with a defeat from a 1-0 scoreline.

It was an unfortunate OG from Gabriel Gudmundsson, who headed the ball into the back of his own net.

The defeat leaves Leeds in 16th place, in with a cluster of clubs (Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Brighton and Brentford) who all have 4 points from the opening 4 games completed.

Julen Lopetegui was in charge of Wolves when Leeds last visited Molineux.

The away team under the leadership of Javier Gracia, gained a great victory, winning the game from a 4-2 scoreline.

Jack Harrison scored the opener for Leeds to give the away team a lead at the interval.

Luke Ayling, Rasmus Kristensen and Rodrigo scored 2, 3 and 4 after the break.

Jonny Otto and Matheus Cunha both scored to give Wolves a chance of a come back making it 3-2 before Rodrigo got the 4th.

Jonny was then shown a straight Red Card in the 84th minute leaving Wolves a man down.

Betfred offer Wolves at 6/4, the Draw at 21/10 and 9/5 for Leeds United to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 6/1 that Jorgen-Strand Larsen Scores First and slight Odds On 5/6 that Both Teams Don’t Score.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

MANCHESTER UNITED v CHELSEA

17.30 in England

Sky Sports

Manchester United were smashed by Man City in the Manchester Derby at the Etihad on Sunday.

The Blue half of the City gained the Bragging Rights from a victory by a 3-0 scoreline and in truth were simply far better than the Red half.

Ruben Amorim looks like a broken man and looks like he wants to be put out of his misery at Old Trafford but the hierarchy insists they are sticking with the Portuguese Gaffer.

However, that could mean the United Board are wanting to see Ruben walk out of the club, so as not to pay a severance package.

The problem with that is, not many Managers will just walk away from a contract so it does appear Mr Amorim will stay until pushed.

That said, Benfica have offered a way out with their Manager position available to Ruben if he does decide to quit.

Ruben Amorim’s coaching philosophy is built on some great performances at Sporting Lisbon including one against Man City in last season’s Champions League.

Ruben has a ‘3 at the back’ philosophy, with any of a 3-4-3, 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1, however, the system at United simply isn’t working but RA refuses to change.

Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United records compared-

League games only-

Sporting Lisbon- Pld-158, W-122, D-22, L-14

Manchester Utd- Pld-31, W-8, D-7,
L-16

The significant part in Ruben’s thinking regarding his future at Old Trafford is that he refuses to change his philosophy which, if one can now accept isn’t working, it then means that he wants to be sacked first rather than walk away.

The old saying-

‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results!’

Mr Amorim will soon be singing the old Jamiroquai tune-

‘Virtual Insanity!’

What do the United hierarchy want?

To continue with Ruben and expect miracles to happen or cut their losses and get someone else in.

Added to that, before the season started, Manchester United were missing key ingredients in different positions.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were brought in to fill a couple of positions but then United paid £70 Million for Benjamin Sesko and got rid of Rasmus Hojlund.

Would it not have been better to keep Rasmus and save the £70 Million to purchase a much-needed Midfielder and a much-needed Goalkeeper?

It’s then the question of who is available to become the next Manager of Manchester United?

Whilst that is the age-old question, that’s for the United hierarchy, who are supposedly top-class individuals in their respective fields to answer.

Not a Numpty from Barnsley, however, John Newsome can offer up a couple of options.

Sir Gareth Southgate is available.

Zinedine Zidane is available, as is Xavi the ex-Barcelona Gaffer.

Those are the elite ones, added to them, there’s Sam Allardyce, Sean Dyche and a few others who would put the cat amongst the pigeons in the roof of Old Trafford.

‘Manchester United are too good to be relegated!’

Are they?

Is one sure?

United were too good to be relegated in the 1973/74 campaign but headed to Division 2 following an abysmal season.

The Ineos Brand need to sort the situation out fast otherwise United will be in a relegation battle.

Remember, there’s no competing in the Carabao Cup now this season after being humiliated by Grimsby (Grimsby!)

United sit in 14th place with the same 4 points as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Brentford.

Chelsea snatched a draw from the jaws of victory against Brentford on Saturday.

After goals from Cole Palmer and Moises Caceido gave Chelsea a lead going into the final few minutes at the GTech Stadium, Brentford scored an equaliser in the 93rd to gain a point from a draw by a 2-2 score.

The Bees had scored the opener in the 1st-half, before Cole the Goal got on the score sheet on the hour mark.

That leaves Chelsea in 5th place with 8 points from the opening 4 games played.

Chelsea face Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League before this trip up North on Sunday.

At Old Trafford last season, both teams shared the points from a draw by a 1-1 score.

After a goalless 1st-half, Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty to give United the lead.

Moises Caicedo scored soon after to make it level and with no further goals both teams gained a point apiece.

If one remembers, Erik Ten Hag had just been sacked by Manchester United, so Ruud Van Nistelrooy oversaw proceedings.

Betfred offer Manchester United at 13/8, the Draw at 5/2 and 11/8 for Chelsea to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 11/2 that Cole Palmer Scores First and 18/5 that Chelsea Win To Nil.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

FULHAM v BRENTFORD

20.00 in England

Sky Sports

Another West London Derby sees Fulham host Brentford at the revamped Craven Cottage.

In total, there are 6 West London derbies between Fulham, Brentford and Chelsea which is good for the fans who don’t have to travel too far.

Added to those 6 games, there’s the other London fixtures between all of Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and Crystal Palace, so the London faithful (including Manchester United’s fans) have the best of the travel conditions of a match day.

Fulham gained a narrow victory over Leeds United at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

After a close game which went into injury time without a goal, Fulham were given a helping hand when the Leeds United Defender Gabriel Gudmundsson scored a brilliant (not for him) Own Goal in the 94th minute to give Marco Silva’s Cottagers the victory over Daniel Farke’s Whites from a 1-0 scoreline.

The win leaves Fulham in 11th place with the same 5 points as Newcastle from the opening 4 fixtures completed.

Fulham’s Carabao Cup game against Cambridge United doesn’t take place until the 23rd.

Brentford gained a brilliant point from a draw by a 2-2 score against Chelsea at the GTech on Saturday.

The Archbishop was happy.

Kevin Schade scored the opener to give the Bees a lead at the interval before Chelsea scored twice to be in front going into 2nd-half injury time.

The New Manager Keith Andrews was the ‘Set Piece’ coach under Thomas Frank and has implemented certain tactics into his team now as a Manager.

One being the old ‘Long Throw’ which reaped the late equaliser from Fabio Carvalho who scored in the 93rd minute to earn Brentford the brilliant point.

Fabio had only been on the pitch a minute after being introduced as a very late substitute.

Nice one Keith!

Brentford sit in 12th place at the top of a mini league of Brighton, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United who all have 4 points from the opening 4 games.

Brentford face Aston Villa at the GTech Stadium in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

In last season’s encounter at Craven Cottage, Fulham left it late but eventually gained the victory over Brentford by a 2-1 scoreline.

Vitaly Janelt scored the opener in the 1st-half to give the Bees a lead which lasted until the 2nd minute of the 90 when Harry Wilson scored an equaliser for the home team.

Harry then scored the winner in the 97th minute to give Fulham the win.

Betfred offer Fulham at Evens 1/1, the Draw at 23/10 and 13/5 for Brentford to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 15/2 that Harry Wilson Scores First and 7/2 that Kevin Schade Scores Anytime.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

BOURNEMOUTH v NEWCASTLE

14.00 in England

The Eddie Howe Derby.

Bournemouth sit in 4th place with the same 9 points as Tottenham and Arsenal after Saturday’s victory over Brighton in the South Coast Derby at the Vitality.

Alex Scott scored the opener to give the Cherries a lead at the break.

Brighton scored an equaliser early in the 2nd-half before Antoine Semenyo converted a penalty on the hour mark to give Bournemouth the win over Brighton from a 2-1 score.

There’s no Carabao Cup game following Bournemouth’s elimination from the competition after losing against Brentford in Round 2.

Newcastle gained a narrow victory over Wolves on Saturday with the New Boy Nick Woltemade scoring the only goal of the game in the 1st-half to give the Magpies the win over the Gold and Blacks by a 1-0 scoreline.

Alexander Isak?

Who?

Newcastle sit in 10th place with the same 5 points as Fulham, both teams having completed 4 fixtures.

Newcastle face Barcelona at St James Park on Wednesday in the opening fixture of the Champions League-League Phase.

The Carabao Cup game against Bradford takes place on the 24th of September.

This was a Game Week-2 encounter when the Magpies flew the long trip South to the Vitality to face the Cherries.

All in all a 700-mile/12-hour round trip for both sets of fans when the 2 take on each other at their respective homes.

Both teams shared the points from a draw by a 1-1 score in mid-August 2024.

Marcus Tavernier scored the Bournemouth goal after 37 minutes to give the home team a lead at the break.

Anthony Gordon scored the equaliser with 15 minutes left to eventually give both teams a point apiece.

Betfred offer Bournemouth at 6/4, the Draw at 9/4 and 13/8 for Newcastle to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 15/2 that Antoine Semenyo Scores First and 9/4 that Bournemouth Score in Both Halves.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

SUNDERLAND v ASTON VILLA

14.00 in England

Sunderland gained a point from a draw by a 0-0 score against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

There’s not much more to be said about that particular game, other than the Black Cats have only scored 5 this season and sit 7th in the table with the same 7 points as Everton, who have only scored 5 themselves in the opening 4 games.

If 5 goals scored appears to be a low number, how about zero goals scored, which is what Aston Villa have managed to accrue in the 4 games completed.

Villa, like Sunderland, gained a point from a draw by a 0-0 score in the fixture against Everton on Saturday, leaving Unai Emery’s Claret and Blues in 19th place with 2 points but without a goal scored, which Unai needs to sort out pretty quickly.

Aston Villa face Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Sunderland don’t have a game in that particular competition after being knocked out by Huddersfield in Round 2.

Aston Villa claimed the victory over Sunderland when the two last met at the Stadium of Light back in March 2018.

Lewis Grabban, James Chester and a Brian Oviedo own goal gave Aston Villa the away day victory over Sunderland by a 3-0 score.

That was a Championship affair with both teams languishing in Division 2, before Sunderland were relegated back to League One at the end of that 2017/18 campaign.

Villa made the Play-Off Final but were beaten by Fulham and had to play another year in the Championship before finally getting back to the Premier League at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Betfred offer Sunderland at 13/5, the Draw at 11/5 and 21/20 for Aston Villa to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer slight Odds On 5/6 that Both Teams Don’t Score and 13/2 that there are Under 0.5 Goals.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)

ARSENAL v MAN CITY

16.30 in England

Sky Sports

Another great game to round off Game Week-5.

Arsenal gained a professional victory over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates on Saturday.

Professional, due to Forest sacking Nuno Espírito Santo and bringing in Ange Postecoglou so in truth, anything could have happened.

Goals from Martin Zubimendi (2) and Viktor Gyokeres gave Arsenal the win over Forest from a 3-0 scoreline.

Arsenal sit 2nd in the table with the same 9 points as Tottenham and Bournemouth all now 3 points adrift of Liverpool at the summit.

Arsenal take on Athletic Bilbao in the
Champions League-League Phase on Tuesday with their Carabao Cup game against Port Vale taking place a week later.

After suffering back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Brighton Man City got back to winning ways with Pep’s High Flying Blues getting the Manchester Bragging Rights over Ruben’s Red Devils by a 3-0 scoreline.

Phil Foden scored the opener, with Erling Haaland scoring twice after the break to give City the easy victory.

City sit in 8th place with the same 6 points as Crystal Palace from the opening 4 fixtures.

Man City host Napoli on Thursday in the opening game of the Champions League-League Phase, which should see Kevin De Bruyne make a quick return to the Etihad after leaving at the end of last season.

The ex-Manchester United players Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund should be on show too.

Man City’s Carabao Cup game against Huddersfield, takes place next week.

Rest in Peace, Ricky Hatton.

If one remembers, Arsenal smashed Man City at the Emirates last season.

Goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey,

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri gave Mikel’s Young Guns the win over Pep’s Low Flying Blues by a 5-1 scoreline.

Erling Haaland had scored to equalise Martin’s opener early in the 2nd-half which seemed to kick Arsenal into gear.

One suggests it might be a bit closer today.

Betfred offer Arsenal at slight Odds On 10/11, the Draw at 5/2 and 11/4 for Man City to come away with all 3-points.

Betfred offer 5/1 that Erling Haaland Scores First and slight Odds On 4/6 that Both Teams Score.

(If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores First and then scores a Second, Betfred DOUBLE the odds.

If they score a Third, Betfred TREBLE the odds.)
