A massive offering by ITV Racing this Saturday with no fewer than 10 races from 3 courses on offer, or are they covering all bases in case ice and snow dictate that some meetings are called off?

The main meeting is from Kempton Park with no fewer than five races being covered, including the Relkeel Hurdle and the Siviniaco Conti Chase. Younevercall and Master Tommytucker look to have good chances in these two races. The rescheduled meeting at Chepstow featuring the Welsh Grand National looks an exciting prospect but the going will be bottomless and stamina will be needed in abundance. Two races on offer from the Welsh course.

Finally, it’s great to see the cameras travelling to Somerset for three races from Wincanton where the going promises to be on the soft side of good. So with all this action on offer, I have looked through the cards for the best value and come up with these selections for this week’s Lucky Fifteen.

Saturday Lucky Fifteen
1.10 Kempton. Theinval
1.40 Kempton. Two For Gold
3.30 Kempton. One True King
3.10 Chepstow. Yala Enki

Beginning with the 1.10 at Kempton, the Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap Chase. This two and a half mile contest looks like a really hot handicap with three classy individuals heading the betting. They are Kim Bailey’s Espoir De Romay, Oliver Greenall’s Evander and Jane Williams’s Erick Le Rouge.

Espoir De Romay won at Huntingdon in November then was a well beaten second on heavy going at Haydock in early December. His weight and the going put me off him.

Evander is lower in the handicap and should handle the going but his wins have come in small fields. Will he handle the hustle and bustle of a large field? I am not sure.

Erick Le Rouge is another who will hate the going and he has not shown the form he did in 2018/19. So who can come out of the pack?

There are several with chances- The Bay Birch, Ibis Du Rheu and Mahlervous, but I have a liking for Nicky Henderson’s Theinval. He has run only once this season where he ran fifth in a Class 2 contest at Leicester on good going in November. The softer ground and drop in grade will suit him and he has the ability to take this.

The Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap Chase is at 1.45. Nigel Twiston-Davies’s low weighted Rocco is highly fancied here after his fine second at this track in November but he moves up in class here.

I have always liked Colin Tizzard’s Slate House and he is a course and distance winner but I am afraid he has too much weight to carry. Tizzard also has West Approach in the lineup but he seems to need a longer distance these days.

Kim Bailey’s Two For Gold was pulled up in a Graded contest last time and has been highly tried after winning a Grade 2 at Warwick last January. This drop in grade should enable him to get off the mark this season. But he will not be without his challengers, one of whom will be Tom George’s Double Shuffle who has been runner-up in a King George here at Kempton. However, he has not won since 2016, so despite his class, I pass him over, he may be placed.

Nicky Richards’s Guitar Pete is a dual Grade 1 winner and he won a Listed race last season but is another who has dropped in class but has been unsuccessful. I will stick with Two For Gold

At 3.30 is the Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle, the big race of the day and what a great turnout we have for this prestigious prize.

Paul Nicholls has a strong hand here with two at the top of the weights, Solo and Amour de Nuit. The former has won here at Kempton last February but has not shown that sort of ability since.

Amour de Nuit, on the other hand, has run consistently well and has been victorious at Plumpton this season but this is a major step up in class for him.

Glynn from Nicky Henderson’s yard will have his supporters. He is very lightly raced and is moving up in class after finishing third (placed second) last time.

Down at the bottom of the weights is Harry Fry’s Misty Whisky, a dual winner at Ludlow and Uttoxeter this season but those were Class 4 contests and this is a serious move up in class. The same can be said for Phillip Hobbs’s Ascot winner Everglow who comes here with low weight and may be placed.

But I like Nigel Twiston-Davies’s One True King who has moved steadily up the handicap charts. He won well at Uttoxeter in October then had two good runs before winning easily at Leicester last month, he can step up to better things here.

Moving to Chepstow for the Coral Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase run over 3m 6f where Evan Williams has the favourite Secret Reprieve. He fell when at the top of the betting at Haydock in November, then came out last month at Chepstow to gain a fine win over several rivals he meets here. I expect him to confirm those placings but he is not unbeatable.

Tom George’s Springfield Fox ran a fine second here last month but steps up in grade and trip.

Christmas In April runs for Colin Tizzard. His form last year was excellent but he was a well beaten second on his only outing this season at Fontwell behind Venetia Williams’s Cloudy Glen and they reoppose here. I think those placings may be reversed and Christmas In April may be placed here.

But my idea of the winner is old-timer Yala Enki from Paul Nicholls’s yard. He had not been out of the frame in his previous four runs before falling at Aintree at the first fence. Provided he has got over that shock departure; the form he had shown previously at Cheltenham when he was just denied may carry him to victory here.
