The Turf Club in Singapore was founded in 1842 on the Serangoon Road Racing Circuit in Farrer Park. It is currently the only horse racing club in Singapore and is part of the Malay Racing Association, which also regulates the three Turf Clubs in Malaysia – the Turf Club in Selangor, the Turf Club of Penang and the Turf Club of Perak. It is the only authorized operator of horse racing and horse betting services in Singapore. It is agent and owner of the Tote Board of Singapore, which manages and directs the donations of funds for charitable purposes.
The first race was held on February 23, 1843, in which the prize money was only $150. In 1924, the club changed its name to Turf Club Singapore, to better reflect its role as horse racing club. The club moved to Bukit Timah in 1933, before its present location at the Singapore Racecourse in Kranji (1999). The race track is located near the Kranji MRT station. The races take place throughout the year on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or Wednesday.
Racing in Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa and, occasionally, the UK, France and Japan are also broadcast live from the Turf Club.
