Where the extra place helps most

The 15:43 at Ascot, the Lavazza Handicap Hurdle, is the race to look at. It pays 5 places with exactly 16 runners, and three of our tips run in it. Our Dark Horses pick EMERALD TIME was forecast at 16/1 against our tissue price of 6.29, with Ciaran Gethings riding for Ryan Hatch. Seymour Biz likes bottom weight GOWER PRINCE, who has won at Market Rasen and Chepstow this autumn, and our Nap of the Day is TRUSTINTIMES (5/2). A non-runner would take this race below 16, and Betfred would then pay 4 places.

SAN JOSE in the Horris Hill Stakes (13:40 Newmarket) is our biggest price, forecast at 20/1 against our tissue price of 9.42, with Rob Hornby riding for Brian Meehan.

At Ascot at 14:00, GORE POINT (forecast 11/1, tissue 3.77) has the biggest gap on our model of any extra place runner today, with Sam Twiston-Davies riding for Anthony Honeyball. Seymour Biz prefers TEDDY BLUE, last year’s winner of the race. This race has exactly 12 runners, the minimum for 4 places.

Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland

Betfred is paying 4 places on two Breeders’ Cup races tonight, the Filly & Mare Turf (19:04) and the Turf (21:36), and money back as cash if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd in the Dirt Mile (18:26), up to £10 (7+ runners must start; 11 are declared). We do not publish our own US tips, so check the field before you bet.

Today’s money back race at home is the 14:33 at Ascot, where both our experts agree.

For every partner’s extra place races, see our extra places page.

How it works

1. Back your horse each way in one of the races above.
2. If it finishes in one of the paid places, including the extra one, the place part pays out at 1/5 odds.
