Where the extra place helps most

ALFRED WINCHAM, our Nap of the Day at 5/2, runs in the 15:25 November Handicap at Doncaster, a 23-runner race where both bookmakers pay 5 places. It is also our ITV Racing pick for the race. Our Dark Horses model has a bigger price in the same race: SOLARIZE, forecast at 16/1 against a tissue price of 6.65, with William Buick riding for Charlie Johnston.

In the 15:55, the other 5-place race, KNEBWORTH is forecast at 20/1 against our tissue price of 10.79, with Finley Marsh riding for Richard Hughes. Big fields and big prices are where each way betting makes most sense, and a fifth place helps.

ZGHARTA (14:45 Doncaster, forecast 14/1, tissue 7.73) is another each way option, with Oisin Murphy riding for Andrew Balding.

GOLDEN STRIKE (12:25 Doncaster) is a leg in today’s Daily Lucky 15, with ROGER POL (13:55 Uttoxeter), CROWN THE FUTURE (15:13 Southwell) and COUP DE COEUR, who runs in today’s money back race.

A word on runners: the 11:55 and 12:25 at Doncaster have exactly 12 runners, the minimum for 4 places at Betfred, and the 13:25 at Uttoxeter has exactly 7, the minimum for 3. One non-runner would take any of them back to standard place terms. The 5-place races have plenty of runners to spare.

How it works

1. Back your horse each way in one of the races above, with a bookmaker paying the extra place.
2. If it finishes in one of the paid places, including the extra one, the place part pays out at 1/5 odds.

Key terms

• Betfred: new and existing verified customers. Each way singles and each way multiples; antepost bets do not count. 3 places needs 7 or more runners and 4 places 12 or more; below that, standard place terms apply. 5 places needs 16 or more runners; below that, Betfred pays 4.
• QuinnBet: each way singles or accumulators placed before the off, at 1/5 odds. Place terms can change with non-runners. One entry per customer.
• Dead heat rules apply.
