Chepstow Racecourse History

The racecourse was officially launched in 1926. Soon after, it became eligible for foreclosure. Luckily, the owners took a bank loan to keep it afloat. Even so, its financial problems continued for ten more gruelling years.

In 1949, the organizers of the Welsh Grand National would move it to Chepstow. This move would change the fortunes of the racecourse. Over the years, the racecourse owners have worked tirelessly to make it an excellent racecourse and keep it that way. Today, Chepstow is the premier racecourse in Wales. It attracts thousands of fans each year due to its busy racing fixtures.

The Course

Flat Course

Chepstow boasts of an excellent flat course with many undulations that pose a great challenge to horses. Its flat course is an oval left-handed track that is two miles and a few furlongs long. Its hilly nature only favours strong, unstoppable horses.

Jump Course

The jump course is no different from the flat course. It is oval, left-handed, and undulating. Horses racing on this track have to contend with 11 fences. That said, it is not a track for the faint-hearted. This racecourse also favours strong horses.

The Welsh Grand National is the most outstanding racing event at this racecourse. It takes place during Christmas, so most people have time to attend.

The Welsh Grand National is undoubtedly the richest horseracing event in the country. Its staggering £150,000 racing fund explains why every jockey wants to compete at this level.

Grade 1 Finale Juvenile Hurdle

It stretches for about 2 miles and 11 yards. The race has eight hurdles, challenging the jockeys and the horses to the core.

Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle

The Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle is a race at the Chepstow course that holds the Grade 3 National Hunt hurdle status. This race is two miles and three furlongs long. It is strictly for horses aged four years and above. It takes place in October each year.

Persian War Novices’ Hurdle

When it comes to betting on exciting races, bettors have two options. They can wait for race days and bet at the shops at the venue, or they can do it online from any location. Betting online is the most convenient option, and its benefits are undeniable.

Online betting sites

A host of excellent betting sites features racing events from the Chepstow racecourse. Finding a site with these markets is quite easy. You can start by looking at your favourite bookie. Besides that, most respectable betting sites across the UK feature all the racing events from this racecourse.

When looking for a bookie, find a provider that works for you. You want a bookie who provides several popular payment getaways for convenient deposits and withdrawals. The betting website should also be easy on the eye and easy to navigate.

Once you find a site that meets your expectations, sign up, fund your account and start betting. Most punters fail to do their due diligence on a particular horse before backing it. If you want to win, check your favourite horse’s background.

Look at its previous and recent performances to determine whether it is a serious contender for the top price. In case it is not, look for the next best horse. Doing this consistently will increase your winning rate.

One of the advantages of online betting is that you have plenty of time and internet resources to pick your winner. And you can do this from anywhere on your phone or PC.

How to Get to the Racecourse

Train

Chepstow is the closest railway station to the racecourse. This station is serviced by stations from various cities across the country. These are the likes of Cheltenham and Newport. If you come from any of these cities, you will alight at the Chepstow train station and proceed to the racecourse.

Road

To get there by road, take an A466.  Leave this lane at the M4 west junction 21 or junction 23. Once you exit this road, you will join M48. Look out for the signposts, which will lead you to the racecourse.

Bus

You will find a bus station at Chepstow town with plenty of buses that take racegoers to the racing grounds. The good news is that you will pay a pound or less to get to the racecourse.

Air

Flying to the racecourse is not straightforward. Racegoers need to land at Cardiff or Bristol before proceeding to Chepstow. Therefore, it is best to travel by road or rail.
