About the racecourse

This racecourse ranks among the busiest in Britain. It is a vast, flat, all-weather course with about 100 meetings yearly and is also home to other well-respected events. Some of the racecourse features include a conference centre, restaurants, bars, and much more.

The racecourse is strategically located a mile from the city, making it quite accessible. Its proximity to other amenities and major transport networks also makes it tremendously welcoming to all racegoers.

The Tapeta surface makes it one of a kind. It is made from high-quality American synthetic material. This means that it resembles an American racecourse. Therefore, it is unique compared to other racecourses across the UK. And the Wolves city council is looking to quadruple its size, open a casino and construct a new tarmac car pack.

History

It has been home to events since 1825. In its current grounds (Dunstall Park), events began in 1888. The National Hunt was the most prominent meeting on this racecourse. However, this changed when developers installed an all-weather road to replace the sand surface.

In 1993, the stakeholders installed floodlights at the racecourse to accommodate evening races. Further upgrades were done in 2001 when the installation of fibresand on the track surface was commissioned.

Three years later, the fibresand surface was replaced with a Polytrack. This was not without controversy due to various safety issues. After investigation, the Polytrack surface was found to be safe. However, it only lasted a decade. In 2014, they replaced it with a Tapeta surface. During this time, it was the only racecourse with Tapeta in the entire UK.

Main meetings

The racecourse is fully booked most of the year. There are countless events that take place in this course. Nonetheless, there are various major events that have become the highlight of the year. Here are some of these events;

Lady Wulfruna Stakes

The Lady Wulfruna Stakes is arguably the most revered event at the track. It’s a sprint distance of about 7ft and 32 yards that takes place every March. With an irresistible grand prize of a staggering £28,000, it delivers the best action. Thoroughbreds that participate in these races are 4 years and above. Winners of this automatically book a spot to compete at the coveted Champions Day that’s held at Lingfield Park.

Lincoln Trial Stakes

The Lincoln Trial is another thrilling race with hot betting prospects for punters. This trial prepares for the much anticipated Doncaster Lincoln Handicap that takes place in April.

The Lincoln Trial is for thoroughbreds aged 4 and above. The race distance is one mile, and you can watch a world-class race from jockeys who battle for the top spot.

How to get to the course

There are several ways to get to the racecourse. If you are going by road, you should exit the M54 at J2 and proceed with the A449 to Wolves. You will see a brown tourist sign leading you to Dunstall Park, where the racecourse is located.

You can also get to the racecourse by train. The railway station sits two miles away from the racecourse. Additionally, there is a taxi line that operates around the station. Racegoers can use a taxi to access the racecourse. Unfortunately, getting a taxi back to the railway station during busy race days can be quite difficult.

Where to bet from

With 80 meetings every year, the course presents punters with many betting opportunities. Here are some of the places where you can place your bets on Wolves Meetings:

Online betting sites

Most established online bookmakers have markets for here (it goes without saying). This is legal, and punters will not get in trouble with the authorities for betting on various races. All you need to do is choose a bookie that offers bets from the markets that interest you. Ensure the bookmaker you choose has a solid reputation, and you will undoubtedly enjoy the betting experience. The best part is that you can bet through your mobile or computer from the comfort of your home.

Wolverhampton Racecourse betting shops

You may want to watch the races live from the stands as a punter. Moreover, following a race you have placed a bet on is more thrilling. Luckily, you will find some state-of-the-art betting stalls on the course, which is the norm at every UK race track.

Given the variety of betting shops at the racecourse, you may find a shop set up by your favourite bookmaker.

The process of betting from these shops is quite straightforward. Punters are only required to provide the type of bet, the thoroughbred they are backing, and the stake they want to place. Once the attendant places the bet on your behalf, they provide you with a ticket. See to it that you keep the ticket safely because should your ticket win, you will need it to claim the prize.

This racecourse is one of the leading racecourses in Great Britain. The events held on this ground attract thousands of racegoers and punters from all over the world.

If you are passionate about meetings and would like to place bets on the same, this Staffordshire racecourse in West Midlands, England, has plenty of events to quench your thirst.
