Hamilton Park Racing Tips

Hamilton Park meetings predictions- everytip.co.uk

The Hamilton Park racecourse is closest to Glasgow, the second-largest city in Scotland. While it has a rich racing history, it is also popular for hosting excellent entertainment activities.

Though the course is popular in the region, very few people know it’s a record-breaking course. It wasn’t only the first course to introduce evening meetings, but it also was among the first to hold horse races starting in the morning. With that said, here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect from the racecourse.

Racecourse history

Racing at Hamilton started in 178. However, the racing wasn’t where it is today. At the time, it was in Chatelherault, a couple of miles outside town. The start was great and promising, and three years after its debut in this location, they started having three fixtures in a year.

Hamilton had jump racing, which continued until 1907 when it had to be halted. Nineteen years passed after the jump meetings were closed without any racing until 1926 when it managed to raise £100,000 to build a new course at Bothwell Road, where it is today.

By horse racing standards, this fact makes Hamilton Park a new build. Also, it’s the only course in Lanarkshire that’s still open, given that the Lanark racecourse closed in 1977. Lanark Racecourse was the first home of the Silver Bell race. However, when the course closed, the Silver Bell race was moved to Hamilton Park.

At its new home, the course has had some innovative ideas, like the evening meeting in 1947 and the debut of the morning meeting in 1971. As if these records weren’t enough, Hamilton went on to break another two in the 21st century. The first one was in 2010 when it became the first course to sell tickets to a concert event without hosting a race. In 2015, it was among the first courses in Scotland to offer racegoers free Wi-Fi.

Hamilton’s top claims to fame may be unorthodox rather than the first world-class horse racing. Despite this, its innovative spirit, combined with easy access and reasonable costs, makes the racecourse a worthwhile visit.

The course

Hamilton Flat Course

The track is right-handed and provides horses with a lot to handle and room for excellent mobility. The looping bend is sharp and has a steep gradient around a significant hollow about 3 furlongs to the line. The conditions closer to the rail can be slightly more difficult after heavy rains, so you can expect to see jockeys switch when the going gets heavy and soft.

But that’s not all. The racecourse provides other tests from steep and abundant undulations. The downhill that comes early in the straight is crucial since jockeys don’t have enough time to prepare for it during sprints. Many jockeys and horses end up riding too fast and struggling on the steep stretch closer to the finish post. Given the shape of the track, the course can only host races one mile and five furlongs long.

Main racing events

Glasgow Stakes

This is a listed flat horse race that’s only open to horses over three years old. It’s run over one mile and three furlongs and is held annually in July.

Lanark Silver Bell

This is a horse racing trophy initiated in Lanark. It is one of the oldest horse racing trophies in the world. When it first started, it was a present from William the Lion to Royal Burgh or Lanark. In the 12th century, King William stayed at Lanark Castle and participated in local hunts, watching racing on moors.

The last Silver Bell Race was run at the Lanark racecourse in 1877. It was re-run in 2008 at Hamilton Park Racecourse. The original bell no longer exists, but the present one dates back to the 17th century.

Online betting sites

Horse betting has been ongoing for centuries. Over the years, it has evolved owing to regulations and technological changes. Today, you can place your bet at traditional bet shops or on online betting sites. Though the two have their pros and cons, we recommend using online betting sites for several reasons:

  • It’s cost-effective – unlike with traditional betting shops, you don’t have to move when placing an online bet. All you need is a stable internet connection and either a smartphone, PC, or desktop. The money you save from not travelling can be used to place more bets on horses you believe in.
  • Welcome bonuses – traditional betting shops try to give discounts occasionally, but they are nothing compared to the welcome bonuses online betting sites provide. The bonuses are often generous, and you can withdraw your wins. However, before you withdraw, you must fulfil the wagering requirements.
  • More markets – with traditional betting shops, you only get to place bets on the races available locally, but with online betting sites, you have access to worldwide horse races. If you have the statistics, you can opt to place bets on a horse race in the UK, US, Ireland, or another part of the world and still get your wins. It’s never a dull season in online betting sites

How to get to the racecourse

Car–driving to the racecourse is an option. You will need to get on the M74 and exit at Exit 5. This will take you to the roundabout, from where you’ll see hard-to-miss brown signposts that lead you to the Hamilton Park racecourse.

Train—If you prefer to take the train, the closest station is Hamilton West. It is about a 15-minute walk from the course.

Air—You can arrive at Glasgow airport by taxi and take a ride to the racecourse. You can opt to fly into Edinburgh, but you should know that it’s ten minutes further.

Final thoughts on Hamilton Park
