Haydock Racecourse History

The first organized horse race in Haydock took place in 1899. Before this, the races took place in Newton-le-Willows. This was about two miles away from the current racetrack.

Lord Newton was the man who recognized the rising demand for horseracing and leased a staggering 127 acres of parkland in 1898. His dream was to open a grand racecourse that would take horseracing in North West England to the next level. And it came true when the Haydock Park racecourse opened its doors to the public.

The Old Newton Cup transitioned from its old venue to the Haydock Park racecourse.
